A 14-month long testing of an experimental drug that is supposed to prevent a person from contracting AIDS has gegun in Nanning, China early this year.the first 49 human test subjects range in age from 18 to 50.This 14-month period is but the first phase, and two more phases are to follow.
Fingers are crossed, but researchers in other countries are skeptical, among them the co-discoverer of the virus, Luc Montagnier. He has issued a public plea for researchers to focus more on finding therapeutic drugs instead of a preventive vaccine, saying that finding a cure is the most logical course of action.
